Alstom to build 740 MW Zubair gas-fired power plant in Iraq
Alstom has secured a contract with Eni Iraq B.V. to construct a 740 MW gas-fired power plant in Zubair, near Basra, Iraq. The contract is valued at nearly €400 million.

French industrial conglomerate Alstom has been awarded a contract worth close to €400 million to build the Zubair gas-fired power plant, located near Basra in southern Iraq. The plant will have a net generating capacity of 740 MW.
Under the terms of the turnkey contract, Alstom will be responsible for the engineering, construction, and commissioning of the facility. Key equipment to be supplied includes four GT13E2 gas turbines. The company's power generation headquarters in Baden, Switzerland, and its gas turbine manufacturing facility in Mannheim, Germany, will provide technical support and engineering expertise.
The new power plant is intended to support the expansion of the Zubair oil field, a significant crude oil producer in the region. Alstom noted that this contract makes it the only original equipment manufacturer to have secured more than one EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contract in Iraq, following its earlier success with the Al Mansurya plant project.
The project underscores Alstom's role in Iraq's energy sector development. The company stated that it is contributing to the country's infrastructure modernization efforts as Iraq continues its reconstruction and expansion initiatives.
