French industrial conglomerate Alstom has secured a contract with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) to build Stage 3 of the Shoaiba power plant located on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia. The deal is valued at approximately €1.9 billion.

The new 1,200 MW steam power plant will be constructed adjacent to the existing facility, situated 100 km south of Jeddah. Upon completion, the Shoaiba power station will house a total of 14 units, reaching a gross output of 5,600 MW.

Under the agreement, Alstom will lead a consortium responsible for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the entire plant. This includes oil-fired boilers, STF40 steam turbines, and GIGATOP turbogenerators. Saudi Archirodon will manage the associated civil and marine works.

This expansion addresses the significant increase in electricity demand in Saudi Arabia, driven by the country's rapidly growing economy. The Shoaiba plant's development is a key component of the nation's strategy to enhance its power generation capacity.
