Alstom to deliver 130 light rail vehicles to SEPTA
Alstom has secured a contract with SEPTA to supply 130 Citadis low-floor light rail vehicles, valued at over €667 million. The vehicles are designed for Philadelphia's historic streets.

Alstom has been selected by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) to deliver 130 fully low-floor electric Citadis light rail vehicles (LRVs). The contract, which includes options for 30 additional vehicles, is valued at over €667 million (approximately USD $718.2 million).
The new LRVs are specifically designed for North America and adapted to navigate the historic streets of Philadelphia. The vehicles are designed to be energy-efficient, with a projected 20% reduction in energy consumption compared to standard light rail solutions. They incorporate modern traction technology, LED lighting, and sensor-based air conditioning.
The Citadis vehicles feature a 100% low-floor design with wider aisles to enhance passenger flow and accessibility. They include ramps at all doors for disabled access and systems for audio and visual information on stops and service changes. The design also prioritizes sustainability, with 99% of the vehicle's materials being recyclable at the end of its 30-year lifespan.
This order will see Alstom replace SEPTA's current fleet of light rail vehicles, many of which date back to the 1980s. Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, manufactures a range of rail transport solutions including trains, metros, and trams.
