Alstom to modernise Copenhagen metro trains
Alstom has secured a contract to modernise 34 metro trains for Copenhagen, Denmark. The work, valued at approximately €30 million, will begin immediately and take about three years.
Alstom has signed a contract with Metroselskabet to perform a mid-life modernisation of 34 M1 and M2 metro trains in Copenhagen. The trains, which have been in operation for nearly 20 years, will undergo renovation at Alstom's workshops in the Rotterdam area, Netherlands.
The modernisation programme includes parts replacement and interior and exterior refurbishment. The project aims to enhance the performance of the metro trains and extend their operational life by 10 years. The work is scheduled to commence immediately and is expected to take approximately three years to complete.
This contract marks Alstom's first major project with Metroselskabet, the operator of Copenhagen's metro. Alstom stated that the refurbishment will improve the passenger experience on the Danish capital's driverless metro system. The company has been active in Denmark for 20 years, having previously supplied over 500 regional trains and signalling solutions.
Metroselskabet indicated that modernising existing trains rather than purchasing new ones aligns with its commitment to minimising environmental impact. The company expressed confidence in Alstom's expertise to improve train performance and passenger experience upon completion of the project.
