Alstom to supply 25 additional X'trapolis 2.0 trains in Australia for €270 million
Alstom has been awarded a €270 million contract by the Victorian Government for 25 additional X'trapolis 2.0 trains. This order increases the total fleet in Victoria to 50 trains.

Alstom has secured a €270 million contract with the Victorian Government to supply an additional 25 X'trapolis 2.0 trains. This order exercises an option on the initial contract awarded in 2021, which was for 25 trains, bringing the total fleet manufactured by Alstom in Victoria to 50.
The X'trapolis 2.0 trains have a 60% local content requirement, which fosters the development of Victoria's rail supply chain and preserves Alstom's sovereign train-building capability in Australia. This contract is expected to secure hundreds of skilled manufacturing jobs across metropolitan and regional Victoria.
The X'trapolis 2.0 is a six-car electric train designed for energy efficiency, developed in partnership with the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning. It has a capacity of 1,225 passengers and features a walkthrough design with wider doors for improved accessibility, including 20 dedicated wheelchair spaces, areas for prams and bicycles, and semi-automated ramps.
The first X'trapolis 2.0 train entered passenger service in May 2026. The additional trains will gradually replace a legacy fleet that has been in operation since the early 1980s.
