Alstom to Supply 47 Trains and Maintenance for New Mexican Rail Corridors

French transport manufacturer Alstom has signed a contract with Mexico's Agencia Reguladora del Transporte Ferroviario (ARTF) to supply 47 diesel multiple unit (DMU) passenger trains. The delivery comprises 33 long-distance and 14 short-distance trains designated for the Ciudad de México–Querétaro–Irapuato and Saltillo–Monterrey–Nuevo Laredo corridors.

The contract, valued at approximately 20.2 billion Mexican pesos (roughly 920 million euros), is part of Mexico's National Development Plan for 2025-2030. This initiative aims to boost passenger rail mobility by connecting key regions in central and northern Mexico.

Beyond the train supply, the agreement encompasses a comprehensive five-year maintenance program. Alstom will also equip maintenance depots and inspection/refueling stations, alongside providing technical training and commissioning services for the new fleet.

The trains will be manufactured at Alstom's facility in Ciudad Sahagún, with over 76 percent of the train's content sourced locally in Mexico. This commitment aims to foster the Mexican railway industry and create specialized jobs throughout the supply chain.
