Raiilty manufacturer Alstom has secured a contract to supply 61 Citadis Spirit light rail vehicles for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). The order comes from Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario, and is valued at over €355 million (CA$529 million). The contract includes an option for additional vehicles.

The Citadis Spirit vehicles will be 48 meters long and have a passenger capacity of 321. They feature a 100% low-floor design for improved accessibility and an interior layout with a wide central aisle designed for passenger comfort and safety.

Specifically designed for the Canadian market, the Citadis Spirit is equipped to operate in temperatures as low as -38°C. Winterization features include reinforced insulation, powerful HVAC systems, and solutions for snow and ice management to ensure reliable performance and passenger comfort in extreme cold.

This contract continues Alstom's collaboration with Metrolinx. The company is also supplying Metrolinx with a new Iconis control centre and a new signalling system for the Union Station Rail corridor. Alstom is also currently delivering 34 Citadis Spirit vehicles for Ottawa's O-Train Confederation Line.
