Alstom to supply high-speed trains for Virgin's cross-Channel services
Alstom will supply 12 Avelia Stream high-speed trains for Virgin's planned cross-Channel rail services, set to commence from 2030. The agreement also includes long-term maintenance for the trains.

French train manufacturer Alstom and Virgin have signed agreements supporting Virgin's plans to launch high-speed rail services across the English Channel. Under the terms, Alstom will deliver 12 Avelia Stream high-speed trains and provide long-term maintenance services for the fleet. The new service is projected to begin operating from 2030.
The arrangement combines Virgin's ambition to expand international rail travel with Alstom's expertise in high-speed mobility. Alstom states that the Avelia Stream trains are designed for energy efficiency, passenger comfort, and operational flexibility. The design and manufacturing of the trains will be carried out by Alstom's facility in Savigliano, Italy, which specializes in international rolling stock.
Alstom will also be responsible for the maintenance of the trains in the United Kingdom, aiming to ensure the fleet's long-term performance and reliability. This collaboration deepens the partnership between Alstom and Virgin, previously established with the supply of Class 390 Pendolino trains for the UK's West Coast Main Line.
Commencement of operations is expected following regulatory approval and financial close. The deal signifies a step in Alstom's strategy to support new market entrants in the rail industry.
