Alstom to upgrade signaling and infrastructure for Miami's Metromover

Alstom has been contracted by the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works to upgrade the Metromover automated people mover system. The €120 million project aims to replace aging infrastructure and signaling technology to improve service reliability and operational efficiency.

Key components of the upgrade include the installation of Alstom’s Cityflo 650 communications-based train control (CBTC) system. Furthermore, the company will overhaul the system’s power distribution, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and guideway switches. These elements have reached the end of their design life, having operated since the system’s inception in 1986.

According to Jérôme Wallut, President of Alstom Americas, the modernization is intended to meet long-term mobility requirements in the region. The project will be managed by Alstom’s team in Pittsburgh, leveraging experience from over 30 global rail line implementations of the Cityflo 650 solution. The execution phase will incorporate several local subcontractors to assist in the integration of the new systems.
