Alstom Trains Produced in Taubaté Begin Operations on São Paulo's Line 6-Orange
Alstom marks the start of operations on Line 6-Orange, supplying 22 Metropolis trains manufactured at its Taubaté factory in Brazil.
French company Alstom has commenced commercial operations on São Paulo's Line 6-Orange with new trains manufactured at its factory in Taubaté, São Paulo state.
The first section of Line 6-Orange, connecting the Brasilândia and Perdizes areas, opened for service on July 2, 2026. This project is a public-private partnership between the São Paulo State Government and the LinhaUni Concessionaire.
Alstom is supplying a total of 22 six-car Metropolis trains for the line. The first 12 trains have already been delivered, with production commencing in July 2025. These trains are designed to carry up to 2,044 passengers at speeds of 80 km/h, and their stainless steel construction ensures lightweight design, energy efficiency, and durability.
The project is estimated to have created approximately 5,000 jobs and involved over 120 suppliers across Brazil. Line 6-Orange, also known as the "university line," connects several higher education institutions and schools within the city, reducing travel times and improving access to education and employment. The trains' energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions also contribute to the development of sustainable urban transportation.
