Alstom wins 80 million contract for Taichung driverless metro signaling
Alstom has been awarded an 80 million contract by Taipei's Department of Rapid Transit Systems to supply CBTC signaling systems for the new driverless metro line in Taichung, Taiwan. The contract includes train control and signaling systems.
Alstom, as part of a consortium including Kawasaki and CTCI, has secured an 80 million contract to supply signaling systems for the Taichung Green Line, a new driverless metro project in Taiwan. The contract was awarded by the Taipei Department of Rapid Transit Systems (DORTS).
The scope of Alstom's contribution covers the train control and signaling systems, platform screen doors, and an integrated control center. The company will also jointly supply communication and CCTV systems, along with fare collection systems. These systems will enable fully automated unattended train operation (UTO), aiming to reduce journey times and operating costs.
The signaling solution will utilize Alstom's Urbalis CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system, a radio-based technology already implemented on numerous metro lines worldwide. Recent deployments include Beijing's metro system.
The 17-kilometer Taichung Green Line will feature 18 stations and is scheduled to enter service in 2017. The new line is expected to integrate with existing transport networks and stimulate development in the greater Taichung metropolitan area.
