Alstom's driverless airport transport system enters service in Shenzhen
Alstom's Innovia APM automated people mover system began passenger service at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport on December 17, 2021.
French transport company Alstom announced on December 17, 2021, that its Innovia APM automated people mover system has entered passenger service at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. The system commenced operations on the same day the airport's new satellite hall opened.
The new 2.6-kilometer line connects Terminal 3 (T3) with the satellite hall. The APM system is designed to transport passengers quickly and efficiently, with a journey time of approximately three minutes. The driverless trains operate at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
Alstom's Chinese joint venture, CRRC Puzhen Bombardier Transportation Systems Limited (PBTS), has been responsible for the system's design, construction, and commissioning since 2018. PBTS has also secured the contract for the system's operation and maintenance.
Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is one of China's busiest airports, having handled over 52 million passengers in 2019. The new satellite hall is designed to accommodate 22 million passengers annually, significantly boosting the airport's capacity.
