Alstom officially inaugurated the Pembroke Power Station in southwest Wales on September 19, 2012. The facility, the United Kingdom's largest Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station, is capable of supplying electricity to around 3.5 million homes.

The CCGT concept employed at Pembroke is designed for efficiency and reduced emissions. It reuses the hot exhaust gas from the gas turbine to generate steam, which then drives a steam turbine, creating a combined cycle with high efficiency and lower environmental impact compared to older fossil fuel plants. The plant also features flexibility, allowing it to adjust electricity generation output based on demand.

This project signifies a critical step in the UK's energy landscape, as the country aims to replace aging coal-fired power stations and meet future energy demands. Alstom has been a key supplier of gas turbines for new power generation facilities in the UK, contributing to the nation's energy security.

Pembroke is Alstom's second contract with RWE npower in the UK, following the Staythorpe power plant. Together with other recent projects, these four power plants are set to add approximately 6 GW of new electrical capacity to the UK grid. Alstom also highlighted its community engagement efforts, including a fundraising event held by the Pembroke construction team.
