Altenburger Land Improves Ergonomics in Cheese Packaging
German cheese producer Altenburger Land has implemented a lifting device from Hovmand to ease the handling of heavy packaging film reels and improve employee working conditions.
The German cheese manufacturer Altenburger Land has significantly enhanced the ergonomics of its production process by introducing a new lifting device for heavy packaging film reels. The company, founded in 1897, produces traditional cheese specialities and faced challenges in handling larger reels weighing up to 30 kg.
The transition to larger film reels, offering a length of 1500 meters, enabled longer production runs without interruption. However, the increased weight made manual handling difficult and potentially hazardous for employees. The change in packaging operations, focusing on one product type per day instead of multiple, allowed for the adoption of these heavier reels.
As a solution, Altenburger Land acquired Hovmand's INOX 90 S lifting trolley, constructed from stainless steel to meet food industry standards. This device allows employees to lift and insert the film reels directly into the packaging machine without physical strain. The changeover process for reels has been significantly expedited, improving working conditions and reducing the risk of back injuries.
The introduction of the lifting aid has optimized the entire packaging operation at Altenburger Land. The new solution not only contributes to a better work environment but also positively impacts costs through increased material efficiency due to the larger film reels.
