Altesa BioSciences Reports Vapendavir Reduces Inflammatory Biomarkers in COPD Patients

Altesa BioSciences presented new clinical data at the European Respiratory Society International Congress 2026. The study demonstrated that vapendavir, an orally administered drug, significantly reduced key inflammatory biomarkers in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who were challenged with rhinovirus.

These results build upon previously reported reductions in viral load, illness severity, and improvements in quality of life from a Phase 2a placebo-controlled challenge study evaluating oral vapendavir.

The study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of vapendavir in treating acute respiratory infections caused by rhinovirus in COPD patients, a population at increased risk for severe complications. The reduction in inflammatory biomarkers suggests the drug may help manage the immune response to the infection.

Altesa BioSciences is continuing the development of vapendavir for the treatment of COPD patients. The company is planning further studies to evaluate the drug's potential in this patient group with significant unmet medical needs.
