Alvarez & Marsal Launches Automotive Industry Group in Japan

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), a global professional services firm, has launched an Automotive Industry Group (AIG) in Japan, appointing Marc Yamada as Managing Director and leader. The new group is intended to expand A&M's support for Japanese automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, and investors as the sector navigates significant shifts.

Japan's position as a major global automotive market makes it a key focus for A&M's expansion. The firm aims to address industry challenges such as the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) and increasing competitive pressures. Yamada brings over 25 years of experience advising automotive companies, with a focus on operational restructuring and performance improvement.

The AIG will assist Japanese automotive firms in redesigning manufacturing footprints, reshaping supply chains, and reassessing portfolio priorities. These adjustments are seen as crucial amid the accelerating EV transition and ongoing margin pressures. This initiative follows A&M Japan's earlier launch of tax and global transaction advisory services, signaling a broader build-out of the firm's performance improvement and turnaround capabilities.

Yamada's prior experience includes leadership roles at EY-Parthenon and Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, where he focused on the automotive and mobility sectors in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. His expertise in cross-market operational and transaction advisory is expected to enhance A&M's ability to help clients improve operations and build more resilient global businesses.
