Alvarez & Marsal outlines India's potential in green hydrogen market
Management consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal identifies four key pillars for India to become a major player in the global green hydrogen trade.

A report from Alvarez & Marsal suggests that India holds the potential to transition from an energy importer to a major supplier in the global green hydrogen market. Santosh Kamath, Managing Director for the firm in India, argues that strategic investment is necessary to capitalize on the shifting landscape of global energy trade.
The firm identifies four primary factors determining a nation’s competitive advantage in green hydrogen: access to renewable energy resources, engineering and manufacturing capabilities, the robustness of the electricity ecosystem, and the cost of capital. Improving these areas is essential for India to scale its production capacity effectively.
As global efforts to reach net-zero emissions accelerate, green hydrogen is increasingly viewed as a vital component of the energy transition. While current production costs remain a barrier, the declining price of renewable energy—the primary driver of hydrogen costs—is expected to facilitate greater adoption in the coming decade.
