Alvarium Beer Company Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Connecticut-based Alvarium Beer Company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, a move that comes amidst broader industry pressures on craft breweries.

Alvarium Beer Company, a New England craft brewery, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company announced the filing via social media, stating that its operations will continue.
The voluntary petition was filed with court documents on Saturday. Owner Brian Bugnacki described the filing as a strategic move to ensure Alvarium's future, affirming that taproom operations, brewing, and coffee roasting will proceed as usual during the restructuring period.
Industry experts note that Chapter 11 filings do not necessarily mean a brewery is closing. It is a legal process that allows a company to continue operating while reorganizing its finances and implementing changes to improve its business outlook.
Alvarium's situation reflects wider industry challenges facing U.S. craft breweries, including rising production and labor costs, shifting consumer preferences, and market saturation. The Brewers Association reported a four percent decline in craft brewery sales volume last year, with the number of operating breweries decreasing by 2.9 percent between 2024 and 2025.
