Alzheimer Research Initiative Funds 18 New Dementia Research Projects

The Alzheimer Forschung Initiative e. V. (AFI) has launched 18 new research projects at the beginning of 2026, aiming to deepen the understanding of dementia diseases. The foundation's funded projects focus on clarifying the mechanisms leading to imbalances in brain proteins, while also investigating the influence of genes like APOE4 on disease development.

The projects also examine factors that can affect dementia risk. A recent review has questioned the clinical benefit of certain anti-amyloid antibodies, highlighting the need for more rigorous research. Additionally, the connection between dietary habits, such as meat consumption, and dementia risk is being studied.

AFI also actively supports young researchers. The foundation provided a grant of €10,000 to the 6th meeting of the Center for Biological and Medical Research at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, where promising young scientists were recognized.

The foundation strives to actively disseminate current research information and its significance. A regular newsletter shares updates on Alzheimer's disease and other dementia-related conditions, offering support to both patients and their families. AFI also emphasizes the importance of donations in advancing research.
