Amadeus enhances support for LGBTQ+ travelers and promotes inclusive travel

Amadeus IT Group is enhancing its travel technology solutions to better support LGBTQ+ travelers globally. The company has updated its systems, including Cytric by Amadeus, to accommodate the use of a 'Gender X' marker on official documents. This change aligns with evolving passport policies, such as the recent update in the United States allowing 'X' as a gender option, aiming to facilitate freer travel for individuals.

The company is also adapting its internal systems to provide more inclusive options for its employees. Staff can now set their gender as 'unspecified' or 'undisclosed' in their profiles, with this information reflected in booking processes. Amadeus frames these adjustments as part of a broader commitment to fostering inclusivity both within the company and for the travelers who use its services.

These initiatives come amid reports highlighting significant challenges faced by LGBTQ+ travelers. Data indicates that 'LGBT-friendly' destinations are a primary consideration for many LGBTQ+ individuals when planning trips. However, a substantial majority of LGBTQ+ travelers report experiencing unwelcoming or unsafe situations, with discrimination remaining a persistent issue across the industry.

Amadeus has a long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion, underscored by its 2018 endorsement of UN Standards of Conduct for Business against discrimination. The company is also a founding member of REDI (Business Network for LGBTI Diversity and Inclusion) in Spain. Internally, the 'Amadeus Proud' employee resource group works to support and advocate for LGBTQ+ employees and their allies across various global offices.
