Amadeus forecasts AI and modern retail to reshape travel distribution

Amadeus IT Group, a major player in travel technology, predicts that the travel distribution landscape is undergoing a fundamental transformation fueled by emerging technologies, primarily artificial intelligence (AI).

The company highlights the critical role AI will play in how travel is searched, sold, and served. Amadeus suggests AI tools can alleviate manual tasks and empower sales teams in a complex market characterized by fragmented content and rising traveler expectations. Solutions like Amadeus Max for Travel Sellers reportedly reduce key workflow handling times by over 70%, while Skylink utilizes conversational AI for natural language bookings, achieving median end-to-end booking times of approximately 99–120 seconds.

Beyond conversational AI, agentic AI is moving from concept to practice, with specialized agents set to handle concrete tasks from inspiration to servicing. Amadeus identifies search and servicing as key near-term opportunities. Search agents aim to make the journey from intent to booking more direct and engaging, while servicing agents could streamline disruption management by identifying impacted bookings and automating rebooking processes.

However, Amadeus emphasizes the necessity of oversight and governance when deploying AI. The company promotes the concept of an "AI Delivery Hub" to industrialize AI capabilities at scale and stresses the importance of trust and human control in agentic AI applications. Amadeus also notes the emergence of AI assistants as a significant new channel for travelers to discover, book, and manage their journeys, complementing existing platforms like websites and apps.
