Amadeus to Acquire IDEMIA Public Security for €1.2 Billion

Travel technology company Amadeus announced on April 29, 2026, its intention to acquire IDEMIA Public Security (IPS), a French provider of biometrics and identity services, for €1.2 billion.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Amadeus' capabilities in biometrics and identity management, complementing its 2024 purchase of Vision-Box. IPS offers a global footprint and serves both public and private sectors, aligning with Amadeus' strategy to bolster its offerings in airport and border control solutions.

Amadeus stated that trusted digital identity is becoming a foundational element of the travel journey, with biometrics adoption accelerating. By integrating IPS's capabilities, Amadeus aims to create more seamless and automated travel experiences. The company plans to connect biometrics with airline, airport, border systems, and hotels to improve efficiency and ensure traveler security throughout their journey.

"Alongside AI, biometrics is one of the most transformative technologies for delivering fast, convenient, and secure end-to-end traveler journeys," said Luis Maroto, President and CEO of Amadeus. "This will enable us to deliver our services across more traveler touch points, in turn reducing friction, and improving the traveler experience."

IPS employs approximately 3,300 people worldwide and serves over 600 customers. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is expected to close by mid-2027.
