Amagi Media Labs reports extortion attempt following data breach
Bengaluru-based SaaS provider Amagi Media Labs has confirmed it is facing an extortion attempt involving operational data stolen from its systems.
Amagi Media Labs has disclosed in a regulatory filing that it is the target of an extortion attempt by an unidentified actor claiming to have accessed the company’s network and operational configuration data. The attacker has threatened to release the data unless a ransom is paid, though the company did not specify when the threat was received.
The firm has engaged cybersecurity experts and legal counsel to verify the breach and determine whether client systems or proprietary information were impacted. Amagi stated it has notified relevant authorities while continuing to investigate the extent of the unauthorized access.
Amagi provides cloud-based software to over 400 media organizations, including television networks and sports leagues, across more than 40 countries. The company has previously noted in its IPO documentation that the storage of sensitive customer data makes it particularly vulnerable to the reputational and financial fallout of security breaches, which could lead to customer churn.
The incident occurs as Amagi aggressively scales its AI-first product strategy. While the company recently reported substantial year-over-year revenue growth, the breach highlights growing concerns regarding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within India's broader technology sector.
