Amazon Acknowledges Light Leak Issue in Some 2026 Kindle Models

Amazon has confirmed that a limited number of its 2026 base model Kindle e-readers may exhibit light leakage from the screen edges. The issue is reportedly noticeable under specific conditions, such as dark mode with high brightness settings.

Amazon has acknowledged that some units of its 2026 base model Kindle e-readers may experience light leakage around the screen edges. The issue is reportedly most visible when the device is set to dark mode and the brightness is at its maximum setting.

The company stated that this is an intended design feature to achieve a colored border effect. This effect is only apparent under specific conditions, such as high brightness in dark mode. Amazon suggests that users experiencing this phenomenon can reduce the halo effect by lowering the brightness while in dark mode.

The 2026 Kindle series, released earlier this month, features a new flush, front-facing display with no raised bezel and an edge-to-edge color display area.

Reports suggest the problem may be linked to the layering of the touchscreen and front light display. The issue is believed to affect batches of the base model, potentially across all colors and materials, including both plastic and aluminum versions.
