Amazon Aurora DSQL generally available as fastest serverless distributed SQL database
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched Amazon Aurora DSQL, a serverless distributed SQL database, touting it as the fastest available. The service offers virtually unlimited scale and high availability without infrastructure management.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora DSQL, a serverless distributed SQL database designed to be the fastest on the market. The service provides virtually unlimited scale and high availability, eliminating the need for infrastructure management.
Aurora DSQL removes the operational burden of patching, upgrades, and maintenance downtime, offering an easy-to-use developer experience for creating new databases quickly. This approach aims to support always-on applications.
During the preview launch at AWS re:Invent 2024, Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO of Amazon.com, highlighted the database's disaggregated architecture. Aurora DSQL is broken down into independent components like a query processor, adjudicator, and journal, which scale individually based on workload demands.
This architecture enables multi-Region strong consistency with low latency and globally synchronized time. AWS states that Aurora DSQL offers the fastest distributed SQL reads and writes for applications requiring continuous availability and high performance, while simplifying database operations.
