Amazon gaming boss predicts consoles may become obsolete
The rising cost of gaming technology is likely to push more players towards online streaming services, according to Amazon's head of gaming. While consoles will likely retain a niche, streaming is expected to grow.

The head of Amazon's global gaming business, Mike Frazzini, has predicted a future for the gaming industry where traditional game consoles are no longer necessary. Frazzini indicated that online game streaming services are poised to become more prevalent as the costs associated with gaming technology continue to rise.
"We believe that the future of gaming will be gaming being available from any device," Frazzini stated in an interview. He emphasized that cloud-based gaming offers a solution to the high expense of gaming hardware and software.
Amazon itself is investing heavily in cloud-based gaming through its Luna service. While Frazzini acknowledged that consoles will likely continue to have a dedicated audience and place in the market, he believes streaming represents a significant growth trend long-term.
This development aligns with a broader shift in media consumption, where streaming services have already supplanted traditional formats in music, film, and television. A similar evolution in the gaming sector could unlock new opportunities for both developers and consumers, lowering barriers to accessing high-quality gaming experiences.
