Amazon in talks to buy AI startup Decart for $7 billion

Amazon is in negotiations to acquire AI startup Decart for an estimated $7 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter. Decart develops artificial intelligence models focused on video editing and the creation of simulated environments.

The startup was valued at nearly $4 billion in May. In August, competitor Anthropic reportedly considered acquiring Decart for around $6 billion but decided against it following due diligence.

Decart raised $300 million in a funding round in May, led by Radical Ventures with Nvidia participating. The company's technology includes the "Lucy" model for real-time video editing and the "Oasis" model for generating simulated environments used in training robotics and autonomous driving systems.

This potential acquisition would bolster Amazon's presence in the AI sector, providing access to advanced video editing and simulation technologies. The integration of Decart's capabilities could support Amazon's autonomous vehicle unit, Zoox, and other AI-driven initiatives across its vast operations.
