Amazon has launched Alexa+ in India, a revamped version of its voice assistant powered by generative AI. The service supports English, Hindi, and Hinglish, and is initially available through a free Early Access program.

Alexa+ is positioned as an AI agent rather than primarily a voice-based information service. It maintains conversational context, understands less structured requests, and can perform actions on users' behalf, such as managing smart home devices, playing media, suggesting and ordering products, and drafting emails.

The assistant will integrate with various services for restaurant reservations and food delivery, although these features are not available at launch. Amazon has also indicated plans for integrations with travel booking and home services.

The new Alexa+ is trained to understand Indian expressions and relationships and can adapt to user routines and preferences. Amazon is utilizing Visual ID and Voice ID to personalize the experience for different household members.
