Amazon Reduces Workforce in India Amid Global Job Cuts
E-commerce giant Amazon has reportedly laid off at least 100 employees in India as part of its latest global job cuts. The affected roles are primarily in retail and customer service functions.

E-commerce behemoth Amazon has reportedly eliminated at least 100 positions in India as part of a wider global reduction in workforce. The cuts, which have primarily impacted retail and customer service roles, are reportedly a consequence of organizational changes within the company's Stores business.
Globally, fewer than a thousand employees were affected by these latest layoffs. While Amazon has confirmed the elimination of roles, the company has not disclosed the specific number of employees impacted in India or provided details on support offered to those affected. This follows earlier, larger rounds of layoffs, including approximately 16,000 roles globally earlier in 2026.
Despite the workforce reductions, Amazon is proceeding with significant investment plans. The company aims to invest a record $220 billion in capital expenditure in 2026, focusing on data centers, chips, and other infrastructure, with a majority earmarked for AWS and AI. In India, Amazon has committed an additional $13 billion in AI and cloud infrastructure by 2030.
The latest job cuts coincide with the launch of Amazon's major "Great Indian Festival" sale event. The company previously conducted substantial layoffs in India, including over 500 employees in early 2026 and more than 1,000 employees affected in late 2025.
