Amazon SQS introduces Fair Queues for multi-tenant systems

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has released Amazon SQS Fair Queues, a new feature aimed at improving the resilience of multi-tenant systems. The feature addresses the "noisy neighbor" problem, where one tenant overutilizes shared resources, negatively impacting others.

In traditional queue systems, older messages are processed first. In multi-tenant scenarios, this can lead to situations where a single tenant's high message volume or extended processing time causes delays for all other tenants. This increases message dwell time and makes maintaining service quality difficult.

The new Fair Queues feature distributes queue processing capacity more evenly among different tenants. This allows systems to ensure that one tenant cannot disproportionately slow down the processing of others' messages. It enhances overall application resilience and simplifies operations while reducing overhead.

Amazon SQS has been a popular choice for building scalable and resilient applications, offering a fully managed service capable of ingesting millions of messages per second. The Fair Queues feature further expands this capability, enabling the construction of more stable and predictable multi-tenant solutions in the cloud.
