Amazon to Expand Drone Deliveries to Nearly 500 US Neighborhoods by End of 2026

Amazon intends to significantly expand its Prime Air drone delivery service, aiming to cover nearly 500 cities and towns across the United States by the close of 2026. This projected growth could make drone delivery conveniences available to tens of millions more consumers, while also raising community concerns about increased noise from frequent drone flights.

The e-commerce giant announced on August 19 that it would soon launch Prime Air in the metropolitan areas of Chicago, Cleveland, Atlanta, Syracuse, New York, and Boise, Idaho, with further locations planned for later in the year. Each Prime Air delivery zone typically covers an area of approximately 175 square miles, with delivery times estimated between 30 minutes and one hour.

Currently, Prime Air operates from Amazon fulfillment centers in 10 cities across seven states. These initial operational areas primarily include suburban neighborhoods in Phoenix, Tampa, Kansas City, Omaha (Nebraska), Baton Rouge (Louisiana), Detroit, Houston, and the Texas cities of San Antonio, Dallas, and Waco. These existing hubs are expected to form the foundation for the upcoming large-scale expansion.
