Amazon updates AI shopping assistant to manage lists and registries
Amazon has expanded the functionality of its AI-powered shopping tool, allowing users to modify grocery lists and gift registries through voice or text commands.

Amazon has introduced new management features for its AI shopping assistant, enabling users to create, update, and transfer items between shopping lists and wedding or gift registries. The update allows customers to interact with these lists using natural language queries directly through the shopping assistant interface.
Since the assistant's launch in May, Amazon has sought to differentiate the tool by integrating it into the core search bar of its mobile application and website. This placement emphasizes the company's commitment to keeping user traffic within its own ecosystem rather than relying on external AI agents from competitors like Meta or Perplexity.
The assistant currently supports functions such as price tracking, product comparisons, and automated notifications. By adding registry management, Amazon aims to increase the utility of the AI for long-term planning, moving beyond simple one-off product searches.
This update follows a broader trend among major e-commerce platforms to embed generative AI directly into the customer journey to reduce friction. Amazon continues to refine the assistant as it monitors user engagement patterns following the initial rollout.
