Amazon Warehouse Workers Launch Unfair Labor Practice Strike in New York

Amazon warehouse workers at the SWF1 facility in Rock Tavern, New York, launched an unfair labor practice strike today, citing ongoing concerns over workplace safety and company policies. The action follows months of what employees describe as ignored calls for improved conditions.

The striking workers, represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, are demanding an end to what they deem unsafe practices, including issues with conveyor belt speeds and alleged neglect by management when safety concerns are reported. They also aim to stop what they call unfair productivity write-ups.

"My co-workers and I are constantly telling Amazon about our safety concerns, but we are always ignored," said Javier Rivera, a warehouse worker at SWF1. "If Amazon won't listen to us on the floor, then we will force it to listen to us on the street."

Employees report hazardous conditions, such as aisles cluttered with packages and falling parcels, as well as reassignments to new departments without adequate training. Reports suggest that concerns posted on the company's internal communication boards regarding safety issues have been removed rather than addressed.

The strike signifies a demand for Amazon to comply with labor laws and cease unfair practices at the facility. The workers seek better safety measures and respectful treatment within the workplace.
