Amazon Web Services enables location service integration for Aurora databases
Amazon Web Services has updated its Aurora database service to support direct integration with Amazon Location Service via AWS Lambda.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a method for users to enrich data stored in Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL-compatible databases with location-based attributes. By utilizing AWS Lambda functions, developers can now trigger Amazon Location Service APIs directly from database queries to perform geocoding and reverse geocoding.
This integration allows organizations to convert address records into precise geographic coordinates without requiring complex external middleware. The functionality leverages third-party data providers such as Esri and HERE Technologies, allowing the platform to manage spatial metadata within the existing database infrastructure.
The feature is implemented through user-defined functions (UDFs), which enable the database to communicate securely with AWS serverless services. This update is designed for developers seeking to streamline the incorporation of mapping and location data into existing database workflows.
