Amazon Web Services introduces DNS and admin network policies for EKS
Amazon Web Services has launched DNS-based and administrative network policies for Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) to improve cluster security and traffic management.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has expanded the security capabilities of its Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) with the introduction of DNS-based and administrative network policies. The update applies to EKS Auto mode and EKS on EC2, providing users with enhanced control over both internal cluster traffic and communication with external endpoints.
The new DNS-based policies allow organizations to enforce access controls based on domain names rather than relying on IP-based filtering. This shift offers a more stable security framework, as businesses no longer need to update firewall rules when IP addresses change. Additionally, the new administrative network policies enable centralized management, allowing security teams to implement uniform standards across multiple namespaces without requiring individual teams to manage policies independently.
These features are designed to address the operational challenges associated with scaling containerized applications. By building these capabilities into the platform, AWS aims to reduce administrative overhead and decrease reliance on third-party security software, streamlining the security posture for complex, multi-tenant environments.
