Amazon Web Services Opens New Region in Osaka, Japan

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched a new cloud infrastructure region in Osaka, Japan, featuring three Availability Zones (AZs). This launch expands AWS's global network, offering customers in Asia more options for deploying applications with enhanced reliability.

The former Osaka Local Region, established in 2018, served as a disaster recovery option for customers in Japan. The newly expanded standard region with three AZs provides significantly improved physical redundancy. Each AZ is designed to be isolated from the others and withstand various local disasters, including power outages, floods, and network disruptions, ensuring high availability for services hosted there.

Key AWS services, including Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Amazon API Gateway, and Amazon Aurora, are available at launch in the new Osaka region. The company indicated that more services will be added moving forward. The region aims to support digital transformation for local businesses and enable the development of modern, highly available applications.

AWS has maintained a presence in Japan since 2011 with its Tokyo region. The new Osaka region complements Tokyo, offering a crucial alternative for customers requiring geographic diversity or lower latency within the area. This strategic expansion underscores AWS's ongoing investment in its global infrastructure to meet the growing demand for cloud services.
