Amazon's Previous Generation Kindle Paperwhite Discounted
Amazon is offering the previous generation Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition at a significant discount. While the newer model is faster and thinner, the older version still provides a solid reading experience.
Amazon has substantially reduced the price of its previous generation Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition e-reader. The discounted model is now available for $169.99, down from its original price of $249.99.
While the newer Kindle Paperwhite can open books 30 percent faster and features a design that is one millimeter thinner, the previous generation device retains the same 300ppi screen, an auto-adjusting front light, and a waterproof (IPX8) design. The Signature Edition specifically omits lock screen ads, offers double the storage (32GB) compared to the base model, and includes wireless charging and an ambient light sensor.
The latest Kindle Paperwhite model from Amazon comes with a $50 price premium. The standard Paperwhite from the previous generation is also on sale, but it features half the storage, lacks wireless charging, and includes lock screen advertisements.
Retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, and Target are carrying the Signature Edition at the reduced price. The timing of the sale could suggest preparations for upcoming product releases or an effort to clear existing inventory.
