AMD confirms two Zen 6 processors to use AM5 socket
AMD's official documentation has confirmed that two upcoming Zen 6 architecture processor families, Olympic Ridge and Medusa1, will utilize the AM5 socket. This extends the platform's support through 2029.

Santa Clara, CA – AMD has officially confirmed through its technical documentation portal that two upcoming Zen 6 architecture processor families, codenamed Olympic Ridge and Medusa1, will continue to use the existing AM5 socket. This move aligns with AMD's commitment to extended platform support.
The Olympic Ridge family is positioned as the next generation of mainstream Ryzen desktop processors. Reports suggest that the Zen 6 architecture may increase the number of cores per CCD (Core Complex Die) from the current eight to twelve. This would enable top-tier models to reach 24 cores and 48 threads, potentially competing with Intel's upcoming offerings.
Additionally, Olympic Ridge processors might introduce integrated NPUs (Neural Processing Units) for desktop use. To manage chip size and complexity, it is possible that the integrated graphics found in current Ryzen 7000/9000 series processors will be omitted.
The Medusa1 series presents a unique dual-support configuration, being slated to work with both the mobile FP10 interface and the desktop AM5 socket. This makes Medusa1 another Zen 6 product line for the AM5 platform, alongside Olympic Ridge. A smaller variant, Medusa2, is confirmed to support only the FP10 mobile socket.
AMD announced at Computex earlier this year that it would extend support for the AM5 socket through 2029. This commitment, previously extended from an initial promise of support until 2025 to at least 2027, underscores AMD's strategy of providing long-term platform stability for its customers.
