AMD Delivers Early Samples of Space-Grade AI SoC
AMD has begun delivering early samples of its Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 adaptive SoC to aerospace customers. The chips are designed to meet the demands of 15-year space missions.
AMD announced on November 1 that it has started delivering early samples of its Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 adaptive System on Chip (SoC) to aerospace customers. These components are engineered to withstand the rigorous conditions of long-duration space missions, potentially spanning up to 15 years.
The SoC features AMD's proprietary space-grade, lidless packaging. This design integrates conservative design rules with enhanced organic substrate materials and space-grade chip capacitors. This combination is intended to mitigate the effects of thermal and mechanical stress experienced in space environments.
AMD is currently testing the Versal AI Core XQRVC1902 SoC against the MIL-PRF-38535 Level Y qualification. This standard represents the highest tier of quality and reliability requirements for space components set by the U.S. Department of Defense.
The availability of such specialized hardware is critical for the advancement of space exploration and commercial satellite operations, where component longevity and performance under extreme conditions are paramount.
