AMD Forecast Projects Quarterly Revenue Surpassing Intel for the First Time
Based on current financial guidance, AMD expects its fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter revenue to reach $17 billion, potentially overtaking Intel's forecasted $15-16 billion range.
AMD has provided financial guidance suggesting its revenue for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026 may exceed that of its long-time rival, Intel. If these projections hold, it would mark the first time in industry history that AMD generates more revenue in a single quarter than Intel, signaling a shift in the x86 processor market.
The company’s growth is driven primarily by its data center division, which now accounts for 64% of total revenue. Increased demand for EPYC server processors and Instinct AI accelerators has largely offset cooling demand in consumer-facing markets, effectively positioning AMD to capitalize on the ongoing expansion of AI training and cloud computing infrastructure.
Despite the gains in high-margin segments, AMD faces headwinds in its legacy operations. Client computing and gaming revenue segments are expected to face a double-digit decline by 2027, constrained by industry-wide volatility and rising memory costs. The shift underscores a broader transition in the semiconductor industry, where high-value data center components are replacing traditional consumer PC chips as the primary driver of corporate profitability.
