AMD Introduces Helios AI Rack System to Compete with Nvidia

Chipmaker AMD is challenging rival Nvidia with its latest hardware release: a rack-scale system engineered for the computing needs of the world's largest AI labs. The company announced the new system at its Advancing AI conference in San Francisco on Thursday.
Helios is described as the industry's "highest performance AI rack," built to train and run the most demanding AI models at scale. AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su highlighted Helios, along with customers such as Microsoft, as the company seeks to capture a share of the rapidly growing AI hardware market. Shipments to customers are expected to begin later this year.
Rack systems combine multiple processors into a single, powerful unit for data centers, utilized for training and running AI models and other intensive workloads. Nvidia has historically led this market segment with its systems like Vera Rubin and Grace Blackwell. AMD's Helios aims to provide a competitive alternative.
Reports suggest Helios' performance metrics are competitive against Nvidia's offerings, positioning AMD strongly in the expanding AI landscape. The development of Helios began in 2025, and its launch coincides with a period of significant demand for AI computing power.
