AMD Roadmap Points to 2029 Release for Zen 7 Grimlock Processors

AMD reportedly plans to launch its Zen 7-based Grimlock APU series in 2029, featuring the RDNA 5+ graphics architecture.

2 November 2026

Hardware industry reports indicate that AMD is developing a new line of processors under the Grimlock codename, scheduled for release in 2029. These chips will utilize the Zen 7 CPU architecture paired with RDNA 5+ integrated graphics, signaling the company's long-term hardware development trajectory.

AMD appears to be maintaining a segmented approach to its graphics integration. While high-end products are slated for the newer RDNA 5 architecture, reports suggest that entry-level and office-focused laptop processors will remain on the existing RDNA 3.5 architecture for the foreseeable future.

In the near term, AMD is preparing for the Medusa product series, with early software support appearing in the HIPRT 3.2 ray tracing library. The Medusa line is expected to incorporate RDNA 4m—an optimized iteration of the current architecture—rather than transitioning entirely to RDNA 5. AMD has yet to provide official confirmation regarding these architectural roadmaps.
