AMD to Acquire World Labs for $8.2 Billion
Processor manufacturer AMD announced on September 28, 2026, that it will acquire artificial intelligence research firm World Labs for $8.2 billion. World Labs founder Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as chief scientist.
AMD has announced its intention to acquire World Labs, a company focused on developing deep learning models to understand physical reality, in a deal valued at $8.2 billion. The acquisition was confirmed by both companies today.
World Labs stated that advancing AI requires close collaboration between model research, systems, and compute. AMD indicated that understanding frontier workloads, such as those developed by World Labs, will inform its future chip design roadmap. This acquisition is expected to deepen the ties between the two organizations.
Following the acquisition, World Labs founder Fei-Fei Li will join AMD as Executive Vice President and Chief Scientist. Li is a renowned figure in the AI community, known for her pioneering work on the ImageNet dataset and computer vision. She established World Labs in 2024 to create deep learning models with a more grounded understanding of reality.
AMD and World Labs have collaborated previously, including forming a partnership last year focused on inference optimization and model training. Li had also been a guest at AMD's CES presentation earlier this year, highlighting the existing relationship between the two entities.
