AMD to Invest Up to $5 Billion in AI Company Anthropic

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced a strategic partnership with artificial intelligence company Anthropic, involving an investment of up to $5 billion. This collaboration secures AMD a significant presence in the AI infrastructure market and provides Anthropic with substantial computing resources.

Under the terms of the agreement, Anthropic will deploy AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs within AMD's Helios rack-scale solutions. The first gigawatt of computing capacity is slated for deployment in the first half of next year. This deployment metric, measured in gigawatts, is becoming a standard for assessing AI data center capabilities.

AMD CEO Lisa Su expressed enthusiasm for the deepened partnership. AMD is a key supplier of the GPUs necessary for training AI models and handling intensive workloads, competing directly with market leader Nvidia. The company has previously secured deals with other major AI players, including OpenAI.

Anthropic's agreement with AMD is the latest in a series of infrastructure deals the company has made to scale its computing capacity. Driven by high demand for its AI models, Anthropic has recently entered into significant agreements with Amazon and SpaceX to expand its computational resources.
