AMD Zen 3 Processor Sample with 3D V-Cache Features Surfaces
An unknown processor prototype for AMD's Socket AM4 platform, indicating experimentation with 3D V-Cache technology, has surfaced. The chip features 12 cores and 24 threads.
Information has emerged regarding an AMD processor prototype intended for the Socket AM4 platform. Codenamed "100-000000652" and based on the "Zen 3" architecture, this chip serves as an example of AMD's explorations into 3D V-Cache technology.
The processor boasts 12 cores and 24 threads, with clock speeds reaching up to 4.85 GHz. Its L3 cache configuration is notable, featuring 32MB of traditional cache combined with an additional 96MB of 3D V-Cache. This expanded cache is distributed across two CCDs, one of which incorporates the 3D V-Cache layer. The chip has a Thermal Design Power (TDP) of 105W.
While AMD did not officially launch X3D processors with dual 3D V-Cache dies in the Ryzen 5000 series, this prototype suggests that the company was experimenting with such configurations in a laboratory setting. Reports indicate that the prototype is not compatible with the latest UEFI versions but functions with older BIOS versions.
This discovery offers insight into the early stages of AMD's processor development concerning 3D V-Cache technology, highlighting the company's efforts to enhance performance through advanced cache solutions.
