The growth represents a notable increase from previous periods. AMD's share rose by 0.7 percentage points from the first quarter of 2026 and an impressive 6.4 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2025. This expansion was driven by gains in both desktop and mobile processor segments, with AMD capturing 34.9% of desktop shipments and 28.9% of mobile shipments in Q2 2026.
Mercury Research noted that AMD has consistently exceeded 30% in desktop CPU shipments in recent quarters. The recent growth in notebook processor shipments has now propelled the overall client CPU share to this new threshold. It is important to note that these figures represent shipments into the supply chain, not necessarily the installed base or revenue share.
The overall processor market experienced robust sequential growth in Q2 2026, exceeding typical seasonal trends. While other research firms like Jon Peddie Research have reported stable shipments, they also noted that rising component costs, particularly for memory, have impacted PC demand. AMD's own financial results align with this growth trend, reporting a 23% year-over-year increase in client segment revenue for the quarter.
