Ameren Missouri Plans New Power Plant for Reliable Energy Delivery

Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation, plans to construct the West Alton Energy Center, a new 2,100-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas facility. The proposed plant is intended to provide customers with dependable, around-the-clock baseload power while managing costs.

The project, filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission (MoPSC), aims to ensure grid reliability as the economy grows and other energy sources age. Construction is anticipated to create over 1,000 jobs and is expected to be completed by 2031, pending regulatory approval. The facility is designed to support demand during peak periods and extreme weather.

Ameren Missouri states that the West Alton Energy Center will enhance energy security by increasing in-state generation capacity. This project is part of the company's strategy to maintain a balanced energy mix and support Missouri's economic development, ensuring electricity needs are met for homes, businesses, and growing communities.

The new facility will be located adjacent to Ameren Missouri's existing Sioux Energy Center, allowing for the utilization of existing infrastructure to maximize resources and customer value. The company has stated its commitment to controlling project costs through strategic investments.
