Ameren Missouri Updates 20-Year Energy Roadmap

Ameren Missouri, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation, has released an updated 20-year Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) outlining its strategy for meeting customer energy needs. The plan focuses on maintaining grid reliability and managing costs through disciplined scenario planning.

The IRP incorporates a diverse mix of energy resources, including natural gas, solar, wind, battery storage, fuel cells, and nuclear power. This approach aims to ensure the grid's stability under various future conditions. The plan calls for significant investments in new generation capacity and grid modernization.

According to the plan, Ameren Missouri intends to increase its natural gas generation capacity substantially between 2031 and 2042, alongside building new simple-cycle natural gas generation by 2029. The company also plans to add considerable solar and wind power, as well as battery storage, over the next decade. Furthermore, nuclear power is slated for addition by 2040, with efforts to extend the operational life of the Callaway Energy Center beyond 2044.

Ameren Missouri emphasizes that grid reliability relies on a mix of energy resources capable of meeting customer demands under different circumstances. The company is committed to serving large industrial customers, and the plan accounts for the associated infrastructure costs, aiming to protect existing customers.

The plan has been filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission and will be updated periodically as part of the company's ongoing planning process.
