American Academy of Neurology launches funding drive for brain research
The American Academy of Neurology has initiated a year-end fundraising campaign to address a persistent funding gap in neurological research.

The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) has launched its annual year-end fundraising campaign, seeking private donations to bolster research into brain diseases and nervous system disorders. The organization states that all contributions are tax-deductible and earmarked entirely for research initiatives.
While the AAN allocated approximately $1.8 million to research grants in 2026, the organization reports that demand continues to significantly outpace available capital. A substantial number of viable research proposals remain unfunded each year due to budgetary constraints, according to AAN leadership.
"We know that excellent research proposals go unfunded," said AAN CEO Mary E. Post. The campaign aims to provide additional liquidity for projects targeting conditions such as Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis. The funds are administered through the American Academy of Neurology Institute, with oversight from the organization's network of neuroscience professionals.
