Irving, Texas – The American Conference Board of Directors has unanimously voted to admit James Madison University (JMU) as a full member. The university will begin competition within the conference no later than July 1, 2028.
The conference conducted a thorough due diligence process before the admission, evaluating JMU across six primary areas. These included institutional and academic alignment, competitive strength, financial sustainability, and brand value, using quantitative analyses of market characteristics and fan engagement.
"James Madison University represents everything we value and strengthens our membership," said Commissioner Tim Pernetti. He highlighted JMU's rapidly growing national brand, built through innovation, investment, and competitive success, stating that the university's trajectory aligns with the conference's direction.
JMU's membership involves significant investment in the conference and is structured to enhance the value for current members. The addition is expected to expand the conference's media platform and support its strategic growth.
